MOXIBUSTION & INFRA RED THERAPY

Moxibustion therapy was founded thousands of years ago in early northern China. It is part of Chinese medical practice and some research suggests it was one of the very first treatment modalities in the world. Moxibustion involves the burning of moxa, an herbal wool made from the leaves of the Mugwort plant (Artemisia Vulgaris), over specific acupoints and areas of the body. The moxa is often formed into a tiny cone and placed on the tip of a needle or rolled into a small pole and heated over the skin in wave-like motions. The radiant/infrared heat produced by moxibustion treatment penetrates deeply into the body to promote circulation, restore balance, and reduce pain. This form of treatment, usually used in combination with acupuncture, is indicated for improving general health and treating chronic conditions such as arthritis, digestive disorders, pain, infertility, ulcers, and many other ailments. The downside for some people can be the strong odor of the created smoke, and the minor risk of a micro burn. We sometimes prescribe at-home basic moxibustion protocols to help enhance the effects of a treatment in certain circumstances. Proper extinguishing of the burning moxa and carefulness is essential.

Infra red therapy involves using the beneficial power of infrared wavelengths of light. When infrared energy is delivered to injury sites and other painful areas, it helps increase circulation, reduces inflammation and can promote quicker healing. This boost in blood flow brings more oxygen and nutrients to injured and aching tissues. It is simple, gentle, and non invasive.
